Addressing Alcohol Use Disorder for Women of Childbearing Age with HIV

This webinar, hosted by HealthHIV in collaboration with PCSS-MAUD (Providers Clinical Support System—Medications for Alcohol Use Disorder) is designed for healthcare professionals—prescribers, nurses, social workers, case managers, counselors, and allied health providers—addressing alcohol use disorder (AUD) among Women of Childbearing Age with HIV. Participants will gain actionable insights into evidence-based care, treatments, and minimizing barriers to medications for alcohol use disorder (MAUD). The session will emphasize integrating AUD and HIV care to improve outcomes for patients and promote better health outcomes. Attendees will also receive enduring CME credits to support ongoing learning and clinical practice improvement.
Learning Objectives (LOs):
- Identify Risk Factors for AUD: Explore genetic, environmental, and sociocultural contributors to AUD and their implications for maternal and child health.
- Assess the Impact of AUD on Maternal and Neonatal Health: Analyze the short- and long-term effects of alcohol consumption during childbearing years—including fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and intergenerational health outcomes.
- Evaluate Barriers to Treatment and Service Utilization: Identify systemic and logistical challenges to accessing AUD treatment—including discrepancies in healthcare and service availability.
- Develop Strategies for Prevention and Advocacy: Formulate strategies to reduce alcohol-related harm, promote better health outcomes, and support women of childbearing age.
- Recommend medications for alcohol use disorder (MAUD) for AUD in Women with HIV: Explore the application of PCSS-MAUD-supported interventions—including culturally informed screening, to address AUD in women of childbearing age, particularly those with HIV.
