Senotherapeutics for HIV and aging
March 1, 2021Senescence is a hallmark of aging-related diseases that is characterized by stable cell cycle arrest and chronic inflammation. Chronic HIV-1 infection predisposes patients to aging-related illnesses and is similarly marked by a senescence-like phenotype. A better understanding of the role of HIV-1 in aging will inform the development of therapeutics aimed at eliminating senescent cells that drive accelerated physiologic aging.

Researchers suggested that Geriatricians with specializations in HIV might soon play a key role in the management and care of older people with both HIV and geriatric syndromes.

Research priorities for rehabilitation and aging with HIV: a framework from the Canada-International HIV and Rehabilitation Research Collaborative (CIHRRC)
May 19, 2020People with HIV are living longer and can experience physical, mental, and social health challenges associated with aging and multimorbidity. Rehabilitation is well-positioned to address disability and maximize healthy aging. In this article, findings from CIHRRC’s aim to identify emerging research priorities in HIV, aging, and rehabilitation from the perspectives of people living with HIV, clinicians, researchers, representatives from community organizations, and policy stakeholders are reported.
Geriatric syndromes in people living with HIV associated with aging and increasing comorbidities: implications for neurocognitive complications of HIV infection
